Max Factor was known for creating the signature looks of some of cinema’s most famous icons, including Ava Gardner, Jean Harlow and Marlene Dietrich. News of Factor’s ventures quickly spread, and he soon worked with Hollywood’s biggest stars while producing his own cosmetics, which allowed a glamorous yet natural look to be created on the silver screen. In 1916, he began selling eyeshadows and eyebrow pencils.
