The first and each subsequent lighting of the candle should last a minimum of until the wax has dissolved throughout the candle. This will allow the candle to burn evenly and prevent tunneling. In order to extinguish a candle with a wooden wick, you should absolutely not blow on the flame. You should extinguish the candle by cutting off its air supply. Before each subsequent lighting of the candle, the wooden wick should be trimmed to a length of about 3-4 millimeters.
