A childhood full of colour
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have been surrounded by fashion all their lives. Even at an early age, they were introduced to colours, cuts and scents on a daily basis, which ultimately led them to create their own original and globally recognisable brand. Where did the designers' passion for creating unique outfits come from? Dolce came from a family of tailors. His father owned a small clothing factory where he spent long hours each day sewing, mending and designing clothes for the people of Sicily. Helping his parents in the business, Domenico quickly discovered his passion, and when he realised that his vocation was to design he left his family's Polizzi Generosa and went to Milan. There he met his future life and business partner, Stefan.
Gabbana was born and worked in Milan. The city became not only home for him, but also a huge inspiration. Looking at the great fashion houses, the unique outfits and enjoying the amazing colours and cuts, he realised that they were his destiny. And so, in 1980, he was hired at the fashion house Giorgio Correggiari, where he met Domenico Dolce - a meeting that changed his life forever and turned the fashion world upside down.
